All You Need Is Discipline and Not Prayers: The Biblical Power of Christian Discipline and Transformation

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” — Romans 12:2 (KJV)   Many Christians pray sincerely for change, breakthrough, spiritual growth, success, self-control, a better marriage, victory over temptation, and a closer walk with God. Yet sometimes, after praying repeatedly, nothing seems to change.  Why?  One important answer is discipline .  D iscipline does not replace prayer; discipline helps us live out what we pray for .  Prayer is essential to the Christian life, but prayer must be followed by obedience, action, consistency, and self-control. You can pray for a stronger spiritual life, but you must also make time to study the Bible. You can pray to overcome temptation, but you must also learn to avoid situations that repeatedly lead you into temptation. Healing is a harvest. When God’s promises for healing and health are sown into our hearts, the grace of health and healing within begin to grow. Our hearts and minds begin to be shaped by His Word rather than by the words of others, our feelings, or our fears. If we continue to “water” the promises of God in our hearts, they will grow and prosper.  The Word of God is incorruptible seed. It produces according to its nature (life, peace, joy, vision, faith, health), when we receive it into our hearts.  “When you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.” (1 Thessalonians 2:13)   The Word “works” in a believing heart much as a seed springs to life in good soil.  And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground….
